"The University"
![]()
Located in the heart of Port-of-Spain, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the above is a photograph of the "University" of Woodford Square, where, in a series of "university dishes served with political sauce," Dr. Eric Eustace Williams ~ 1911~1981 ~ brought his people together, educated and guided them from colonialism to Independence and finally, to Republicanism. Dr. Williams was the first prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago and head of government for a quarter of a century until his death. Permission to use the above photograph was granted by his daughter, Erica Williams Connell.
The staff at The Oliver Cromwell Cox Online Institute proudly remembers Dr. Williams at The Fifth Annual Eric E. Williams Memorial Lecture.
These lectures are co-sponsored by the Eric Williams Memorial Collection at the University of the West Indies ~ Trinidad and Tobago Campus ~ and the African New-World Studies Department of Florida International University.
